(Technion) Jacob Katriel supports Tali Fahima, the Israeli woman who is standing trial for helping a Palestinian Terrorist
Date sent: Wed, 28 Sep 2005
From: Jacob Katriel
Subject: An appeal on behalf of Ms. Tali Fahima

Dear friends,

As you are aware, Ms. Tali Fahima has now been in jail for well over a year, while her trial proceeds at a very slow pace.
Two key Palestinian witnesses brought by the Israeli General Security Service (GSS) denied in court the testimonies the GSS claims they provided during their (presumably harsh) interrogation (they are both in Israeli prison).
It is (in my opinion) remarkable that even if those claims were true they would have amounted to no offense except within an ultranationalistic interpretation of a citizen's obligations to the State.

I am writing to you with a request to consider making a donation towards Ms. Fahima's legal expenses. The small group of Israeli activists most closely involved with following Ms. Fahima's trial, that I am a member of, managed to collect among its own members some US$10,000 but we lack at least twice as much.

I would like to say that Adv. Smadar Ben-Natan has undertaken a heroic task that she performs in a highly dedicated and very talented way. It is, however, imperative that her expenses be covered and her efforts be compensated for, so that she can keep devoting so much time and attention to this critical case.

I intend to match the highest contribution, up to US$1000, by an equal contribution of mine. I realize that most people cannot afford such a contribution, and there may be many who cannot afford any contribution at all. To those people I would like to say that their moral support is extremely valuable, and that they should not in any way feel inconvenient or intimidated.

There is one practical matter that I would like people contributing from abroad to be aware of: The bank fees for overseas cheques are rather high, so it would be very helpful if contributions from any particular country were consolidated by somebody in that country who would than send us a single cheque. I am therefore appealing to people outside of Israel who would agree to take upon themselves this task to contact me and I will then distribute their names and contact information on this list.

Please send contributions to
Mr. Jacob Manor
P.O.B. 1335
Kfar-Saba
44113 Israel

or make a deposit into account number 119442 in Bank Hapoalim, Branch 679, to the order of "Mateh Hacoalizia" (Women's Coalition for Peace).

In either case, please send me an email so that a proper followup and acknowledgement is facilitated.

I believe that US citizens can also make a tax exempt contribution via the New Israel Fund (earmarked: "Coalition of Women for Peace, Tali Fahima's campaign"). If there is interest in this option please let me know and I will obtain the full relevant details.

Since the Jewish New Year is just a few days ahead, please let me conclude with my best wishes for the New Year.

Sincerely yours,
Jacob Katriel
