Clinton to Receive Honorary Doctorate from Tel Aviv University
|
Former U.S. President Bill Clinton is to arrive in Israel on Sunday for a lightning visit to receive an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University.
This is the his first visit to the Jewish State since leaving the White House a year ago.
During his eight years in the office, Clinton visited Israel four times, more than any other American president, and was considered as a big friend of Israel.
Tel Aviv University President Itamar Rabinovich, a former Israeli ambassador to the U.S., praised on Saturday the Clinton administration for its wide support for Israel, saying "because of the treatment and upon the basis of his contribution to peace in the Middle East, the university will grant him an honorary doctorate."
Clinton is expected to visit the tomb of late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin in Jerusalem and meet with Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and President Moshe Katsav. He will also speak on globalization at an event sponsored by an information company.
Prior to his visit to Israel, Clinton visited Egypt on Friday, during which he appealed to Egyptians to embrace a world free of terrorism and help build a peaceful Middle East with an open mind. He will leave Israel Monday evening.
