# 11. The Occupation Debates
Part III: Dimensions (April 24th -- May 15th)
The last class meetings would be dedicated to the deepening of aspects discussed already and to the exploration of aspects not discussed in the syllabus, such as the Intifada, gender, the “wall” (barrier), economic dependency, the diplomatic-strategic aspects, the peace process,
Palestinian politics, etc. etc. This part of the class would be based on "book review" presentations by students. These presentations would serve in turn as the launching pad for the written seminar papers that the students would submit as a final assignment.
Students are required to coordinate with the teacher until April 17th the book they would review, and to recommend a chapter from the book for the reading of the class.
For instance, a student who is interested in writing on the role of archeology in the Israeli-Palestine struggle over the territory, can review the book Facts on the Ground: Archaeological Practice and
Territorial Self-Fashioning in Israeli Society, by Nadia Abu El-Haj (University of Chicago 2002); or, a student who is interested in
Jewish-Mizrahi identity in Israel can review The Arab Jews: A Postcolonial Reading of Nationalism, Religion, And Ethnicity by Yehouda Shenhav (Stanford UP, 2006), etc.
