Israeli activist to talk on Middle East peace

July 29, 2009

WEST BARNSTABLE — Neve Gordon, an Israeli professor in the Department of Politics and Government at Ben-Gurion University, is scheduled to discuss the prospects for peace between Israelis and Palestinians at Cape Cod Community College.

Gordon, who is also a writer and activist, is scheduled to begin his talk at 7 p.m. on Aug. 12. It will be held in Lecture Hall C of the college's Science Building.

Gordon has been a visiting scholar at several institutions of higher learning, including the University of California, Berkeley; the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor; and the Watson Institute at Brown University.

During the first intifada in the late 1980s and early '90s, Gordon worked as the director of Physicians for Human Rights — Israel.

He is the co-editor of "Torture: Human Rights, Medical Ethics and the Case of Israel"; the editor of "From the Margins of Globalization: Critical Perspectives on Human Rights"; and, most recently, the author of "Israel's Occupation."

His writings have appeared in numerous scholarly journals as well as in news publications.

The Cape Cod Community College event is sponsored by the Women's International League for Peace & Freedom. Co-sponsors include Cape Codders for Peace & Justice, Falmouth Peace, the Fellowship of Reconciliation and the Upper Cape Green Party.
