Editorial Note
Prima facie, the Berlin seminar organized by the ZFL in conjunction with the Lexicon for Political Theory led by Adi Ophir (TAU) "Rewriting Political Terms, Rewriting Political Concepts" seems innocuous enough and far removed from the usual anti-Israel rhetoric of critical scholars. After all, what can be wrong when a group of academics wants to discuss concepts like "animal," "suffering" or indeed the concept of "concept" itself.
However, the list of Israeli participants and some the concepts scheduled for analysis warrant a closer look. Adi Ophir, has placed the Holocaust and the Palestinian Nakba within the same ontological plane of "suffering" and "evil." Michal Givoni has argued that witnessing/testimony should transcend its standard, legal-empirical meaning to embrace "moral witnessing." This form requires the moral witness to denounce the "evil" lurking behind, her term for Nazi-like, Israeli oppression of the Palestinians. Anat Matar has called for a new concept of the "university," one that would depart from objectivity and neutrality to become a bastion of intellectual elites like herself who know what the real "truth" is and can transform society accordingly.

Joint workshop of the project "Lexicon for Political Theory" (Mafte'akh, Tel Aviv University, led by Adi Ophir) and the ZfL project "Theory and design of an interdisciplinary concept of history."
The workshop will be discussed in terms that are both in political as well as in relevant interdisciplinary discourse. Against the background of current, especially the Middle East problem concerning its conflicts between power, market, government, political theology and religious politics examines the Hebrew and English appearing Lexicon for Political Theory: Encyclopedia in the Making semantics and limitations of the political, while the import from other disciplines and the everyday language of special attention. At the critical interpretation of terms and the redefinition of their trial there, the analytical question is the focus: What is x? This approach interferes with the notion of Interdisciplinary History Project, which examined the basis also of current situations, the semantic boundaries and transfers between disciplines and cultures historically. From the workshop, we expect synergy effects for both projects. The participants from Tel Aviv will present theses and essays on the concepts of 'common sense', 'Animal', 'concept', 'Suffering', 'Testimony' / 'Witnessing', 'University', which are then critically reviewed by the participants and ZfL be commented on conceptual historical perspective. Gemeinsamer Workshop des Projekts "Lexicon for Political Theory" (Mafte'akh, Tel Aviv University, Leitung: Adi Ophir) und des ZfL-Projekts "Theorie und Konzept einer interdisziplinären Begriffsgeschichte".
In dem Workshop sollen Begriffe diskutiert werden, die sowohl im politischen als auch im interdisziplinären Diskurs relevant sind. Vor dem Hintergrund gegenwärtiger, insbesondere die Nahostproblematik betreffender Konflikte zwischen Macht, Markt, Staat, Politischer Theologie und religiöser Politik untersucht das auf Hebräisch und Englisch erscheinende Lexicon for Political Theory: Encyclopedia in the Making Semantiken und Grenzen des Politischen, wobei dem Import aus anderen Disziplinen und der Alltagssprache besondere Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wird. Bei der kritischen Interpretation von Begriffen und dem Versuch ihrer Neubestimmung steht dort die analytische Frage im Mittelpunkt: Was ist x? Dieser Ansatz interferiert mit dem des Projektes Interdisziplinäre Begriffsgeschichte, das, ebenfalls von aktuellen Konstellationen ausgehend, die semantischen Grenzen und Übertragungen zwischen Disziplinen und Kulturen historisch untersucht. Von dem Workshop versprechen wir uns Synergieeffekte für beide Projekte. Die Teilnehmer aus Tel Aviv werden Thesen und Essays zu den Begriffen 'Common sense', 'Animal', 'Concept', 'Suffering', 'Testimony'/'Witnessing', 'University' vorstellen, die dann von Teilnehmern des ZfL kritisch und aus begriffshistorischer Perspektive kommentiert werden.
